Philosophy

Scope of work - Design and construction documents for custom homes as well as remodels/additions. Matthew Mawer Residential Design (MMRD) is focused on, but not limited to, the greater eastside communities of Mercer Island, Bellevue, Medina, Clyde Hill, Kirkland and Newcastle. MMRD has also developed several projects in the resort community of Suncadia, as well as Lake Chelan.

Design - MMRD prides itself on intelligent floor planning and timeless exteriors. There are no 'throw-away' elevations in an MMRD designed home. All four elevations are treated with the same respect as the front elevation. MMRD is devoted to capturing the client's dreams and wishes and translating that into a tangible idea. MMRD does not force its own design style or tendencies upon its clients. MMRD merely makes its client's vision a reality.

Relationship - A good working relationship between client and designer is critical to the success of any project. An open line of communication is important for the exchange of ideas as well as solving any problems that may arise throughout the construction process. With any remodel/addition or custom home, it isn't really a question of 'if' a problem will arise, it is 'when'. How those problems are solved is what sets MMRD apart. A free initial interview is a great way to determine if MMRD is a good fit for your project.

Budget - This is the single most critical factor in every project. From the initial stages of design development, the size and scope of each project is discussed at length to ensure that every project MMRD takes on has a realistic chance of being executed at the proposed budget. Nothing can undermine the success of a project faster than a missed or unrealistic budget.

Timeline - It is always MMRD's goal to provide a reasonable turn-around time for every project. A thorough discussion regarding a realistic timeline prior to the start of each project will take place. Second only to budget, an unrealistic or unrealized timeline can sour a relationship between owner and designer quickly.

Project Management - There is a certain amount of 'hand-holding' that occurs with every project. Whether it is on-site consultation/clarification during construction, permit management or changes that invariably occur. MMRD makes itself available at the client's and/or contractor's request throughout the duration of the project to assist in any of these areas.
